Thiim aims to continue ‘fantastic streak’ in Shanghai

Nicki Thiim says Aston Martin Racing is aiming to keep its podium streak going as the FIA World Endurance Championship heads to China for the third round.

Thiim and Marco Sorensen took victory in Fuji last month and this weekend, the Dane Train returns to the site of the Aston Martin Vantage AMR's first ever victory. The duo has landed in Shanghai with a lot of momentum, and Thiim says he aims to keep the streak going.

"We go back to Shanghai with some good memories from when Marco and I took the first victory with the Vantage GTE last year," said Thiim.

"We want to continue this fantastic streak in Shanghai, especially after winning last time out as well. Shanghai is a great place to visit, and it’s one of the tracks that suits the characteristics of the Vantage GTE most of all.”

After the opening round at Silverstone, the third round in China is the second round held in the newly introduced four-hour format.

"We’re expecting the competition for track position to be fierce again,” Thiim continued. “The manufacturers in GT racing are quite evenly matched now so the racing is very close."

The #97 sister car of Alex Lynn and Maxime Martin is on a podium streak since Silverstone, taking third place in class both times. Lynn has said he now aims to climb the top step, which he last did during the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in May.

“We’ve finished third in both the first two races, but we’ve had the pace to win both,” said Lynn. “We’re determined to move up a couple of podium steps in China.”
