Team LNT topped the timing sheets in second free practice ahead of this weekend's 4 Hours of Shanghai. This is the first time a Ginetta has topped the timing sheets in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Charlie Robertson put the #6 Ginetta G60-LT-P1 – AER on top at Shanghai International Circuit with a time of 01:48:127.

The two Toyotas, who spent first practice on the back foot, considerably improved in the second session. Kazuki Nakajima was second in the #8 TS050 Hybrid, just 0.061s slower than Robertson. Bruno Senna put the #1 Rebellion R13-Gibson in third place with a time of 01:48:288 ahead of the #7 Toyota and the #5 Ginetta.

Nicolas Lapierre once again led the way for Cool Racing in LMP2, as he put in a 01:49:754 in the #42 ORECA 07-Gibson. Phil Hanson was over sixth-tenths back in the #22 United Autosports ORECA, while newly crowned SUPER GT champion Kenta Yamashita set the third fastest time in the #33 High Class Racing ORECA.

The #71 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of Miguel Molina and Davide Rigon bounced back from a fuel leak in first practice to go fastest in the second friday session. Molina posted the quickest time in GTE Pro. His 02:00:036 was nearly half a second up on the #97 Aston Martin Vantage AMR of Maxime Martin, while Fuji race winner Marco Sorensen was a further three-tenths back in the #95 sister car.

The two Porsche 911 RSR-19s of Kevin Estre and Richard Lietz were fourth and fifth, while James Calado brought up the rear in the #51 AF Corse Ferrari.

The running order in GTE Am remained nearly unchanged as Matteo Cairoli once again went quickest in the #56 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR. The Italian's 02:01:814 was slower than his morning effort, but was still enough to beat out Ross Gunn's #98 Aston Martin by 0.098s.

Matt Campbell took third for Dempsey-Proton Racing's #77 Porsche, while Charlie Eastwood and TF Sport had to settle for third in a session where the top seven were just over two-tenths of a second apart.
