Clint Bowyer signs one-year extension to remain at Stewart-Haas Racing

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer and Stewart-Haas Racing have inked a one-year contract extension to keep Bowyer behind the wheel of the #14 SHR Ford through, at least, the 2020 Cup Series season.

“Clint Bowyer is a racer to his core who brings passion and energy to our race team,” Stewart-Haas Racong co-owner Tony Stewart said. “He’s exactly who I wanted to drive my #14 car, and we’re very happy to have him continue with Stewart-Haas Racing.”

Bowyer has been driver of the #14 since 2017, upon Stewart's retirement as a NASCAR driver. He actually signed with SHR a year ahead of time, in 2015, and spent the 2016 season at HScott Motorsports, awaiting Stewart's retirement. He previously drove for Michael Waltrip Racing and Richard Childress Racing, starting his Cup Series career at RCR and finding himself without a seat with MWR's closure at the end of 2015.

“I’m proud to be back with Stewart-Haas Racing next year and very happy to announce it the week leading into my home race,” Bowyer said ahead of Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. “This is a team filled with racers who love to compete, and as a race car driver, it’s exactly where you want to be. Great equipment, great teammates, and we’re all backed by great people, which starts at the top with Tony and Gene [Haas, SHR co-owner]. They know how to build some fast Ford Mustangs and I’m the lucky guy who gets to drive ‘em.”

Two of Bowyer's 10-career Cup Series wins have come with SHR, both in 2018. Heading into Sunday's race at Kansas, Bowyer is 11th in the points standings with seven top-fives and 15 top-10 finishes in 31 races, so far, this year. He has made the playoffs each of the last two seasons.
