The Formula 1 paddock is taking measures amid the impending arrival of Typhoon Hagibis on Saturday.

All track activity on Saturday has been cancelled in anticipation of the heavy rain and sustained wind gusts that are set to strike the region through Saturday afternoon and evening.

Typhoon Hagibis is set to be the most powerful storm to strike Japan this year, with forecasters warning of 1000mm of rain in some areas across a 48-hour period.

Extra holes have been drilled into the ground in the paddock in order to secure the 12 temporary hospitality units that house the teams, Formula 1 and the FIA.

Mercedes has confirmed that its pit wall will be folded down, while all panelling at the front and rear of the garages will be removed, with the shutter doors closed on both sides.

The majority of equipment inside of the garage will be lifted from the floor in order to avoid potential flood damage.

Its furniture and screens will be removed from the hospitality unit while it is also looking into preparations for potential power losses and surges.

The broadcast centre is set to be moved to a different location in order to protect itself from damage as much as possible, while some trackside equipment will also have to be derigged.

Formula 1 teams and drivers are set to spend Saturday in their respective hotels, with some in nearby Shiroko, and others staying in the town of Yokkaichi.

The circuit will be completely closed on Saturday aside from the few emergency personnel that are required to be present.

The Suzuka bowling alley and Honda Active Land will be opened on Saturday night for any spectators to evacuate if needed.
