Rodney Childers and Stewart-Haas Racing have agreed to a multi-year contract extension that will keep Childers a crew chief at SHR for the foreseeable future.

Childers is crew chief on the #4 SHR Ford of Kevin Harvick in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Sports Business Journal's Adam Stern first reported the news of the extension Monday via Twitter.

"Rodney Childers has agreed to a multi-year renewal with Stewart Haas Racing to continue as crew chief of the No. 4 Ford program with Kevin Harvick, per source," Stern tweeted.

According the Childers, the extension was a done deal a while ago he had just preferred to keep the news private.

“Well, not sure how this got out,” Childers [@RodneyChilders4] tweeted. “It’s been awhile back and I have tried to keep that stuff private. But obfiously I’m very happy to continue with the 4 team and @Kevin Harvick .. I’m very fortunate to work with so many great people and have such a great goup of guys.”

Childers has been Harvick's crew chief since the 2014 Cup Series season, the year both arrived at SHR. They won the Cup Series championship in their first year together and have won a total of 25 races, including a season-high eight in 2018 and three, so far, 30 races into the 2019 season.

Childers won three races as a Cup crew chief prior to his arrival at Stewart-Haas Racing, all three with Michael Waltrip Racing with drivers David Reutimann and Brian Vickers. He has been a Cup Series crew chief since 2005.
