Charlie Eastwood: First win for TF Sport a long time coming

After coming close on multiple occasion, TF Sport took their first win in the FIA World Endurance Championship this past Sunday by winning the 6 Hours of Fuji.

The trio of Sailh Yoluc, Charlie Eastwood and Jonny Adam started from pole position for the second race in a row after the #57 Team Project 1 Porsche was stripped of pole. The #90 Aston Martin Vantage AMR then proceeded to dominate the race and take victory.

“The first win in WEC is an amazing feeling, specially having come so close before," Eastwood said. "A few things have always seemed to knock us off the top step, so it has been a long time coming!"

The team came close to a first win before on a number of occasions. It took four second place finishes and a pole position during the 2018/19 Super Season, and also started from pole during last month's 4 Hours of Silverstone season opener but finished seventh.

"We got pole, Salih did a mega job at the start of the race and then really for me and Jonny it was about managing the advantage," Eastwood continued. "The team did everything perfectly and the car was as perfect I have ever felt during a two-hour stint and that’s what you need to win at the World Championship level.”

Salih Yoluc, who started the car from pole position, added: “The first WEC win feels pretty good! My stint was good, and the car felt great, very easy to drive, so for me I was able to pull out the gap so that my teammates could be in a good position to manage the race afterwards, a great result.”

The British squad now sits second in the championship standings, ten points behind the AF Corse trio of Francois Perrodo, Nicklas Nielsen and Emmanuel Collard, who took second in Fuji after winning the first race of the season at Silverstone. The FIA World Endurance Championship continues with the 4 Hours of Shanghai on November 10th.
