Haas opens door for Robert Kubica 2020 role

Haas boss Guenther Steiner says the team would be interested in working with Robert Kubica in 2020, should the Pole wish to remain in the sport.

Kubica announced a week ago that he will be leaving Williams at the end of the season, with his opportunities to remain on the grid slim to none.

The Williams driver has suggested that DTM, along with a handful of other categories, are under consideration for next year, while he could also add an F1 simulator role to his duties.

When asked whether Haas would be interested in Kubica, Steiner said: “Yeah, for sure. I never worked with Robert personally but a lot of people in my team did and they all rate him very highly for his skills as a technical driver who knows what the car is doing.

“He came up the hard way, working on his own cars because he had to when he was young. I think it’s interesting for us to work with Robert. It’s more his decision than my one.”

When asked about Steiner’s thoughts, Kubica commented: “I think it’s too easy to make conclusions of the words of someone else regarding what I want to do and what I don’t want to do.

“I think it’s correct that I keep it for myself what I want to do and what is in my mind. It is very simple.

“Sometimes it is more simple than it looks from the outside and sometimes we need to do step by step and not three steps in one go, so I think as I said, we will have to just wait and see and I don’t know what Gunther said but I know what I think, what I want to do, I know what is possible realistically and then we will see if this puzzle will be together or not.”
