Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be out at Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. Chris Buescher will return to RFR in 2020 to replace him as driver of the #17 Ford.

“We can’t say enough about Ricky and his contributions to Roush Fenway Racing,” Roush Fenway Racing co-owner Jack Roush said. “We’re proud to have been a part of Ricky’s development from ARCA to Xfinity and, ultimately, the Cup Series. He has served as a great representative to our partners, while helping to accumulate numerous accolades, wins and multiple championships on the race track. We wish him well as he enters the next chapter of his career.”

Stenhouse has been with Roush Fenway his entire NASCAR national-level career, beginning with the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He won two-consecutive Xfinity Series titles in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, Roush promoted him to the Cup Series to drive the #17, replacing Matt Kenseth. Stenhouse has two-career Cup Series wins at Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway in 2017.

Buescher also began his NASCAR national-level career with Roush Fenway Racing in the Xfinity Series. After winning the Xfinity Series championship with RFR in 2015, Roush moved him up to the Cup Series, striking a deal with the affiliated Front Row Motorsports to but Buescher in a Cup Series car. Buescher spent one season with FRM before moving to JTG-Daugherty Racing ahead of the 2017 season.

“We are certainly excited to have Chris back in the fold at Roush Fenway Racing,” Roush said. “He has a long history with our organization, and we’ve always been a big fan of Chris and his racing style. We have watched his progress with great interest over the last couple of seasons, and we are looking forward to having him in the No. 17 as we continue to grow our program next season.”

Buescher has one-career Cup Series win in a rain-shortened race at Pocono Raceway in 2016.
