Ricky Taylor has claimed pole position for the IMSA Monterey Grand Prix with a time of 01:15:035, leading the #7 Team Penske Acura in front-row lockout for Acura Team Penske as Juan Pablo Montoya second in the #6 sister car.
The two Acura ARX-05 have displayed strong pace all weekend, as the two cars were nearly half a second ahead of the #10 Konica Minolta Cadillac of Jordan Taylor. The #77 Mazda of Tristan Nunez will be lining up fourth and the top five was completed by the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac of Felipe Nasr.
Kyle Masson took pole position in LMP2, setting a time of 01:16:817 in the #38 Performance Tech Motorsports ORECA 07-Gibson to beat PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports' Matt McMurry by nearly a second.
In GT Le Mans, BMW upset the fast Fords as Jesse Krohn surged to pole position in the #24 BMW M8 GTE. The Finnish driver posted a fastest time of 01:21:557 to beat out the #66 Ford GT of Dirk Müller, with championship leader Laurens Vanthoor in third place in the #912 Porsche 911 RSR.
Vanthoor's team-mate Nick Tandy had a scare in the #911, losing control of his Porsche on the exit of the Corkscrew. The rest of his session was rather forgettable, qualifying last.
Tandy was not the only Porsche driver to experience trouble in qualifying. Patrick Lindsey crashed heavily during the GT Daytona qualifying session, losing control of the #73 Park Place Porsche 911 GT3 R on the exit of turn 10, slamming into the concrete barrier and bringing out a red flag.
Before the crash, Meyer Shank Racing's Trent Hindman had topped the timing sheets in the #86 Acura NSX GT3 Evo, but Corey Lewis put in a mega lap in the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo to take pole from Hindman by a tenth of a second. Cooper Macneil took third in the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3.
