Formula 2 set for 17-car grid at Monza

The Formula 2 field is set to consist of only 17 cars at Monza in the aftermath of last weekend’s tragic accident at Spa-Francorchamps.

A multi-car collision on the second lap of the Feature Race resulted in the death of Anthoine Hubert while Juan Manuel Correa sustained serious leg injuries.

The Arden team for which Hubert raced confirmed shortly after the event that it will field only one car, for Tatiana Calderon, this weekend.

On Wednesday it was confirmed that Sauber Junior Team by Charouz and Trident will also field just a single entrant at Monza.

The #12 car, driven by Correa this season, will remain in the team’s garage as a silent tribute to Hubert, while Callum Ilott will continue to represent the team.

Trident, meanwhile, has only one available car this weekend.

That is because the car used by Alesi at Spa-Francorchamps has been impounded by authorities as part of the investigation into the accident.

Alesi will nonetheless continue to compete this weekend as he has taken the car previously raced by Ralph Boschung this year.

Boschung has struggled for financial backing throughout the course of 2019 and has already sat out two rounds.
