Charlie Eastwood: ‘Any problem that could hit us did’

TF Sport experienced a difficult start to their 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship, with a number of issues and penalties leaving the #90 Aston Martin Vantage AMR to come home in seventh place during the 4 Hours of Silverstone

The trio of Salih Yoluc, Charlie Eastwood and Jonny Adam started the opening race of season 8 from pole position and lead the early stages. The team's luck wouldn't last however, as it was soon plagued by a number of issues. The car developed a brake issue which would continue to plague the team throughout the race, with a refuelling issue following soon thereafter.

The team's struggles were then completed by a drive through penalty for a full course yellow infringement, along with several GTE Am front runners. This included Francois Perrodo in the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo, which eventually went on to class victory.

“A difficult race for us and it seemed that any problem that could hit us did," commented Eastwood. "We all had really good pace and I had the fastest lap of the race, so I’m happy on that side.

If you count back with what we had with the brake problem, drive through penalty and fuelling issue – then we’re only a minute behind the lead, so that makes it hard to take. We’re now going into the race with no penalties in terms of success ballast and we know we have plenty of speed in the car and drivers.”

“It was a bit of a disappointing result given the speed we showed in qualifying," Jonny Adam added. "As a team we need to investigate the issue we had on the brake.

We were unlucky with the Safety Car and we could have been on the pack and fighting for a top four in the final laps. There are massive positives in how the car has performed and we’ll aim high in Japan as we expect the car to be very strong around there.”
