Silverstone 4H: Safety car at halfway point, rain causes trouble for Toyota

Toyota Gazoo Racing leads at the halfway point of the 4 Hours of Silverstone, with the #7 leading after Brendon Hartley in the #8 got in trouble when it began raining.

The Kiwi led the race before his windscreen wiper failed when it started raining. Both Toyotas then pitted, with the extra repairs for the #8 obliterating the gap Hartley had built up before Kamui Kobayashi took the lead.

Rebellion hold third and fourth, with Nat Berthon in the #3 ahead of the #1 of Norman Nato. Ginetta continue to struggle, with the #5 of Egor Orudzhev the fastest of the two, three laps down behind the LMP2 front runners.

The #6 of Oliver Jarvis is inbetween the GTE Am field, suffering extra delays when he came together with AF Corse's Miguel Molina, sending the #71 Ferrari flying off at Maggotts, leading to the second retirement.

Molina's exit promoted Aston Martin's Maxime Martin to third place in GTE Pro, with the #97 Vantage AMR now behind the two Porsches of Michael Christensen and Richard Lietz.

The two Porsches made a tyre gamble when the rain came, and quickly built a lead. The only remaining Ferrari of James Calado suffered a puncture sometime after the start, which left it down in class.

Racing Team Nederland continue to lead in LMP2, with Job van Uitert having taken over from Giedo van der Garde and building a lead on intermediates. Nicolas Lapierre sits in second with the Cool Racing ORECA, while the #36 Signatech Alpine holds third with Pierre Ragues behind the wheel.

In GTE Am, Matteo Cairoli has inherited the lead after several rivals hit trouble. First, Salih Yoluc and Egidio Perfetti collided, followed by a slow stop for the #98 Aston Martin of Darren Turner, dropping another leading car down the order. Cairoli now leads in the #56 Team Project 1 Porsche ahead of the #83 AF Corse Ferrari of Emmanuel Collard and the #77 Dempsey-Proton Porsche of Riccardo Pera.
