Juan Manuel Correa is in a stable condition in intensive care, following the high-speed Formula 2 accident on Saturday.
Correa struck the stationary car of Anthoine Hubert exiting Raidillon at Spa Francorchamps and was launched into the air, landing upside down.
Hubert succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
Correa was transferred by helicopter to CHU Liege and underwent surgery, remaining conscious until his admission to the operating room.
Correa suffered fractures to both legs and sustained a minor spinal injury. He is currently resting in intensive care.
The 20-year-old stepped up to Formula 2 this season with Sauber Junior Team by Charouz, and claimed podium finishes in Azerbaijan and France.
As a development driver for Alfa Romeo Racing he got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time during the summer break, completing a day of running in the team’s 2013 package at Paul Ricard.
