Third in qualifying ‘a good start’ – Rosss Gunn

Ross Gunn qualified third in his first ever outing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, behind TF Sport and Team Project 1, considering it to be a good start to his WEC career.

The British youngster will be teaming up with veterans Paul Dalla Lana and Darren Turner for his race debut in tomorrow's 4 Hours of Silverstone, and is pleased about the results of his first qualifying session.

"That was a good first session in WEC," Gunn told Motorsport Week. "There’s a couple of areas where we need to improve for the race tomorrow, a few little setup things to do, but a good start nevertheless.

It’s great to be working with Paul and Darren, two people I’ve wanted to work with for a number of years. So yeah, it’s great to do it here. First race in WEC on my home track, it’s awesome."

The #98 Aston Martin's average time of 01:56:469 handed the trio third place, a spot that confirms Gunn's expectations of being able to fight at the front of the GTE Am field.

"Yeah, practice, especially over yesterday, suggested that we were in the mix to be at the front. The Ferrari pack found a lot of pace today. Porsche not too far away either, so there’s going to be a good scrap in the race tomorrow. We were expecting to be close to the front, and it was proven correct today."

Gunn, who has been winning races with Aston Martin for a number of years, believes he will not have to differ his approach to tomorrow's race, thanks in large part to his experience with the track and the car he's driving.

"I’m very used to driving these sort of cars on this track and I’m just gonna get into a rhythm as early as possible, try and put in some consistent laps together and try and fight for that win."
