MotoGP releases provisional 2020 calendar

MotoGP governing body Dorna today unveiled an expanded provisional 2020 calendar, with the return of a round in Finland for the first time since 1982 being the highlight.

The Finnish Grand Prix-which takes place at the recently completed Kymi Ring venue- will become the final race before heading into the summer break on the 10th-12th July weekend, replacing Germany which switches with the Austrian GP in the schedule to the 19th-21st June weekend.

Another significant change to the calendar comes in the shape of the Thai GP, which moves from the October date it has occupied since its MotoGP debut last year to the second race of the year, coming two weeks after the season opener in Qatar on the 20th-22nd March.

The Japanese, Australian and Malaysian rounds that make up the end of season triple header remain in the same order, while only two of the 20 scheduled races remain subject to approval.

The Kymi Ring is yet to be officially homologated by the FIM, with approval expected soon as the track has now been completed.

The circuit hosted a two day test last week that brought together all seven current premier class manufacturers with their respective test riders, and with positive reviews coming from all accounts homologation should be relatively straightforward.

The Czech GP at Brno also remains subject to approval, and despite rumours the event may fall off the schedule due to funding issues it looks likely to remain for at least another year.
