Laurens Vanthoor set the fastest time in a Porsche one-two in opening practice for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR, with Nick Tandy in second place.

The Belgian set a time of 01:41:296 in the #912 Porsche 911 RSR, 0.139s clear of Tandy in the #911. Vanthoor's fastest time came despite an off-track excursion in the final right-hander.

The GTLM teams would sort themselves nice in groups of two down the rest of the timing sheets, with the #67 and #66 Fords of Ryan Briscoe and Dirk Müller third and fourth respectively, ahead of the #3 and #4 Corvettes of Jan Magnussen and Tommy Milner.

The #24 BMW of John Edwards was less than a second behind Vanthoor in seventh, while Connor de Philippi was the only driver to post a gap over a second, setting a 01:43:019 to finish eighth in class.
