Troubles continued for Richard Childress Racing drivers Austin Dillon and Daniel Hemric after The Aug. 11 running of the Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan International Speedway. The two drivers and their respective Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams were docked 10 points as a result of their cars having improperly functioning alternators on them during qualifying at Michigan the previous Friday.

The problematic alternators were discovered on Dillon's #3 Chevrolet and Hemric's #8 in post-qualifying inspection, and as a result, their qualifying times disallowed, putting them 36th and 38th on the 38-car starting grid for last Sunday's race. Also, their crew chiefs, Danny Stockman Jr. (#3) and Luke Lambert (#8) each were fined $25,000.

Both Dillon and Hemric are outside of the top-20 of the drivr points standings with three races remaining in the regular season. Both drivers would need to win in the next three races for any hope of making the playoffs. Dillon finished 13th and Hemric 26th at MIS.

Dillon and Hemric's team were the only two Cup Series teams penalized after the Michigan race weekend.
