Brendon Hartley has been named as one half of GEOX Dragon's 2019/20 driver lineup, with the Kiwi joining the US outfit to make his Formula E debut later this year.
Hartley has most recently competed in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship – a series in which the New Zealander holds two titles when driving for Porsche.
The 29-year-old also had a short stint in Formula 1, driving for Toro Rosso in 25 grand prix in which he secured four points from 2017-2018.
"I’m happy to be taking on a new challenge in Formula E together with GEOX Dragon," said Hartley.
"Formula E is totally different from any other race series I’ve been in, but I am hoping my experience in many categories with energy management will pay dividends and give me a head start as a rookie.
"I’ve already started working with most of the GEOX Dragon team, and I have a strong feeling that we can share some good success together in the coming season.”
Given his affiliation with Porsche, Hartley was a prime candidate for a seat with the German marque ahead of its Season 6 Formula E entry, however, missed out on the drive when Andre Lotterer was named as Neel Jani's team-mate for the pending 2019/20 campaign.
"I am very pleased to have Brendon pilot one of our two entries in Season 6 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship," continued GEOX Dragon team boss Jay Penske. "Brendon is a real racer."
"He has a unique combination of experience, intellect, and racecraft that will allow him to maximize the potential of the new Penske EV-4 powertrain.
"Most importantly, he shares our hunger, and our determination to take the fight to the incredible field of major manufacturers this season."
With Hartley signing with GEOX Dragon while the Kiwi is also set to contest the 2019/20 WEC season with Toyota Gazoo Racing, a number of questions regarding series priority continue to be raised, with Formula E and WEC set to have two calendar clashes next season.
The identity of Hartley's team-mate for the looming campaign is currently unknown, with neither Maximilian Gunther or Jose Maria Lopez set to continue with the team for Season 6.
