Jaguar Racing Team Director James Barclay has said that the British marque's ability to fight for the Season 5 Drivers' Championship shows its progress in Formula E.

Jaguar joined Formula E in Season 3 and has continually improved year on year, taking its maiden points finish in its first season, maiden pole position and podium in its second and most recently, its maiden win in its third.

With Mitch Evans building upon his Rome E-Prix victory with podiums in Bern and the first round of the New York City E-Prix, the Kiwi and Jaguar Racing were able to contest for the Drivers' Championship, however, ultimately missed out on the crown to DS Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne.

Reflecting upon this continuing success, James Barclay praised his Jaguar team, stating that the outfit's ability to fight for the title in only its third season showcases its progress:

"I’m incredibly proud of everything Panasonic Jaguar Racing have achieved this season," he said. "We’ve had three podium finishes – and our first win in Rome – which is a testament to the hard work of all the team.

"Fighting for the championship up until the last race of the season shows the progress we’ve made. Although it was ultimately frustrating, we gave it our best shot.

"The team have created a fantastic racecar with the Jaguar I-TYPE 3 and it has shown great speed and efficiency during the season. Season 5 has been important as we’ve learned to win as a team and run at the front of the championship.

"I would like to thank Mitch [Evans] and Alex [Lynn] who have really worked well together and brought success to the team. We are also grateful to all our partners and fans who support us in Formula E.

"The work for Season 6 has already begun. It will be the toughest season yet but that motivates us and makes us even hungrier for more success."

Season 6 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship will commence on November 22 in Ad Diriyah.
