Robin Frijns secured his second career Formula E victory at the season-closing New York City E-Prix as Jean-Eric Vergne became the series' first double champion.
For the final race of the 2018/19 season, Alexander Sims started from pole position for BMW i Andretti Motorsport while Frijns lined up in second, joining the British rookie on the front row of the grid.
Securing a strong start, Sims maintained the lead into Turn 1 while third-placed starter and Race 1 winner Sebastien Buemi moved into second place, jumping Frijns off the line.
Before Frijns could fight back, the safety car was deployed following a collision between Jose Maria Lopez and Andre Lotterer, with the pair retiring as a result.
The green flag waved with 34-minutes + 1 lap of racing remaining after a five-minute pause and Frijns immediately closed up to Buemi, overtaking the Swiss racer to reclaim his starting position after 14 minutes.
10 minutes after clearing Buemi, Frijns next paved a route around Sims, diving up the inside of the Briton in Turn 1 to snatch the lead.
With Sims unable to close the gap to the Dutchman, Frijns secured victory in the Big Apple, recording his first points finish since his last win in Season 5 in Paris.
Taking second, Sims recorded his maiden Formula E podium finish while Buemi stood on the final step of the podium, ending the season as the only driver to secure four consecutive podium finishes.
Sam Bird in the second Envision Virgin Racing car finished in fourth place while Daniel Abt secured fifth place for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler.
On the final lap of the race, the battle for six was intense, with Lucas di Grassi scrapping against Mitch Evans in an attempt to increase Audi's points tally in order to challenge DS Techeetah for the Teams' title.
On the approach to Turn 11 of 14, however, the pair made contact and crashed out of the race, with this swaying into the advantage of Oliver Rowland who took sixth position.
Vergne rose from 12th on the grid to finish in seventh place, becoming the ABB FIA Formula E Championship's first double champion, building upon his Season 4 title in the first year of the series' Gen2 era.
Stoffel Vandoorne and Gary Paffett delivered HWA Racelab with a memorable final race in Formula E ahead of Mercedes' takeover of the team for Season 6, the pair finishing in eighth and 10th, split by Antonio Felix da Costa in the second BMW.
With Vergne taking the title, Buemi emerged as the runner up in the Drivers' Championship with 119 points while an 18th place finish for di Grassi demoted the driver to third.
Formula E's sixth season will commence later this year on November 22, with the grid expanding to 24 cars as Mercedes and Porsche join the championship.
