Insight: Austrian Grand Prix – Form Guide

Who’s hot 🔥 and who’s not 👎🏻 at the Red Bull Ring? Motorsport Week takes a look at how teams and drivers have fared at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Wins 🏆

The Red Bull Ring returned to the calendar in 2014 after an 11-year absence and since then it has largely been the domain of Mercedes.

But with two-time winner Nico Rosberg having walked away after 2016 no driver on the current grid has taken multiple wins at the venue.

Lewis Hamilton passed Rosberg on the final lap in 2016 to secure the victory while a year later Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas profited from a rocket-like start to win.

Last season a rare double retirement for Mercedes opened the door for Max Verstappen to deliver a home victory for Red Bull at the fifth time of asking, halting the Mercedes steamroller in the Alps.

Podiums 🎉

Six of the current drivers have stood on the Red Bull Ring podium.

Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen, whose first rostrum at the circuit came under its A1 Ring guise in 2003, have taken three apiece, with Bottas, Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel having two podiums to their name.

Daniel Ricciardo has claimed one piece of silverware from a circuit, whose podium has been graced most times – five – by David Coulthard.

Poles 💨

Only two drivers on the current grid have taken pole position in Canada, and they are the Mercedes pair.

Hamilton took pole position in 2015 and 2016 while Bottas has been the main man in Q3 across the past two years.

What else? 🔍

Williams’ most recent pole position came at the Red Bull Ring in 2014, when the team enjoyed a renaissance and locked out the front-row of the grid, a world away from its 2019 form.

Mercedes is seeking to equal a Formula 1 record this weekend. If it triumphs it will be its 11th win on the bounce, matching the achievement of McLaren in 1988.
