Sebastien Buemi: Bern E-Prix third place ‘feels like a win’

Sebastien Buemi has said that his third place finish at last weekend's Bern E-Prix felt like a win, with the former Formula E champion standing on the podium on home turf.

At the Bern E-Prix, which marked Formula E's second race in Switzerland, overtaking proved to be difficult, with the top three finishing in the same starting positions for the first time in the all-electric single-seater series' short history.

Claiming third place, Buemi secured a haul of 15 points for Nissan e.dams while the result also marked the Swiss racer's second consecutive podium finish after taking second at last month's Berlin E-Prix.

"It was an amazing day for me, even if it’s just a third place it feels like a win," said Buemi post-race. "It was amazing and I think we did a good job.

"The track was a very challenging one, maybe a little bit too narrow to allow for good overtaking but it’s part of Formula E. I think it was good to hold the red flag very quickly like that," referencing a first corner pile-up at the race start.

"We still had a little bit of energy management to do at the restart. I felt that I had good pace but I didn’t want to take the risk.

"It was so hard to pass and I thought: ‘I’m going to try to secure third place and if something happens I’ll try to grab it’ but I didn’t want to try too hard."

With two races remaining and 58 points still available in Formula E's Season 5 campaign, Buemi still stands a mathematical chance of taking the Drivers' Championship for the second time in his career, albeit slim, trailing leader Jean-Eric Vergne by 54 points.

In the Teams' Standings, Nissan e.dams is also one of four outfits fighting for the title in New York, locked in a battle with leaders DS Techeetah, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler and Envision Virgin Racing.

The double-header New York City E-Prix will take place on the weekend of July 13 and 14, with the race in the big apple marking Formula E's final race until next season's Ad Diriyah E-Prix on November 22.
