Dani Sordo unsure of where his next WRC outing will be

Dani Sordo, winner of the Sardinia Rally for Hyundai, says he is still unsure of when he will next be behind the wheel.

The Spaniard secured an unexpected second career victory when Ott Tänak’s Toyota had a steering problem on the final stage while leading.

Hyundai is rotating its line-up in its #2 and #3 cars all year, with Sordo, Sébastien Loeb, and Andreas Mikkelsen all on limited programmes, while title contender Thierry Neuville drives the whole season. Sordo said he will now be waiting to hear from team chief Andrea Adamo when his next outing will be.

Rally Finland is the big question for Hyundai, possibly facing a driver shortage on what has always been its weakest event of the year.

Asked if he would like to do the event, the opening rally after the summer break, Sordo said: "What do you want me to say? I don't know. It's not my preferred rally, it's not one of my favourites, but maybe I can go there and take some points, fourth, fifth place something like that. But it's August, no? That's nice for holidays."

However, asked about Rallye Deutschland – where he took his other win with Citroën in 2013 – he said: "I would like to do Germany, but maybe that's complicated with Mikkelsen, Loeb, and Thierry. I don't know about that one."

However it is likely that he will drive there, with either Loeb or Mikkelsen in the third car.

Frenchman Loeb's sixth and final 2019 outing with Hyundai is currently scheduled for Spain later in the year. Sordo added: "I'm just trying to do my best in these rallies. Between now and the next rally, we have some time to think. It's maybe too early to think about next year, but I don't have anything sorted yet and I would like to continue."
