Matteo Cairoli captured GTE Am pole position for the #88 Dempsey-Proton crew in qualifying ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Speaking to Motorsport Week after qualifying, the Italian youngster admitted to being very content with the result, although he admitted his lap could have been better.
"I’m extremely happy to be here for the second time in a row," Cairoli said."I didn’t have a real clear lap, I was overdriving a bit, and then I was in not a very good position considering traffic, but it was good enough to grab pole."
"I have to say, we were a little bit scared at the end of the session because some other cars were approaching us," Cairoli continued. "They were coming closer and closer, so we were ready for another shot, and I think I could have improved a little bit, but it was enough to put me on pole."
Cairoli, who is sharing the #88 Porsche 911 RSR with Satoshi Hoshino and Giorgio Roda, says he is prepared for the tough 24 hours ahead.
"I think I’m well prepared, I’m gonna drive like twelve hours, so it’s pretty long."
"We just need to stay out of trouble, first of all, don’t get any penalties for any reason. Let’s hope for a great result, because as I said, it’s a long race, a long weekend. The weekend is almost over, it’ll be a tough one as usual, but let’s hope to be at the chequered flag at least, and let’s hope a podium."
