René Rast made it two out of two in qualifying at Misano, taking the top spot on Sunday as well as Saturday, with a best time of 1:25.384.
Rast pipped follow Audi driver Robin Frijns by just 0.07s to claim an all-Audi front-row, in fact the German marque dominated the session, claiming the top five positions with Jonathan Aberdein third ahead of Nico Mueller and Pietro Fittipaldi.
"I’m very happy with my second pole in a row," said Rast. "It wasn’t a smooth qualifying: I used two sets of tyres and actually made a mistake on my pole lap, but I scored three points for the championship and there are many Audis up front."
The best non-Audi was that of Saturday race winner Marco Wittmann in sixth, who admitted Rast's pole time was out of reach.
"I can be happy with being the best-placed BMW driver," he said. "Not having been able to take part in qualifying yesterday turned out to be a slight disadvantage, I wasn’t at the top of my game today to extract the maximum performance in qualifying. Another tenth of a second could have been possible, but certainly wasn’t enough for pole."
Loïc Duval, Joel Eriksson, Philipp Eng and Timo Glock completed the top ten.
Wildcard Andrea Dovizioso brought out the red flags when he made a tiny mistake which led to him brushing the barriers. He starts 14th.
Aston Martin struggled, filling the final four spots on the grid with Jake Dennis the highest-placed in 15th.
