When the record books are written read in years to come, they will reflect that the 2019 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix and the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 were both won by the men who took the respective pole positions. Just another pair of boring races..?
Anything but! In fact race fans were treated to nearly six hours of edge of the seat racing, first in the Principality of Monte Carlo and then barely an hour after the chequered flag, the excitement continued in Indiana, some 6,000 mile west of the famous Monaco street track. Yes, Lewis Hamilton and Simon Pagenaud may have won from pole position but neither race was processional in any way at all. No, their rivals tried just about everything to catch and indeed both drivers even had their leads threatened on their penultimate laps; Joe Saward and Phil Horton report from Monaco while Steve Camp has the story on how the 500 was won.
In addition, this week we also have a full report on the BMW I Berlin E-Prix where Chris Soulsby reports from on how Jean-Eric Vergne and his Techeetah team may not have won but both managed to extend their lead in both the drivers' and manufacturers' championship standings.
We also have Jerry Williams' preview on this coming weekend's Vodafone Rally Portugal which kicks off on Thursday. Plus we also have a full report on how the Solberg dynasty continues after 17-year-old Oliver, son of Petter, become the youngest ever winner of a round of the FIA's European Rally Championship, on Rally Liepaja in Latvia yesterday.
