A.J Foyt's Tony Kanaan ended Carb Day practice top of the speed charts on the final day of track running before Sunday's 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500.
In a session without the sight of a single yellow flag, Kanaan took his #14 ABC Supply-Chevrolet to the top of the speed charts with a 225.517mph best lap.
The Brazilian veteran will start his 18th Indy 500 from 16th place and he believes he can run with confidence in the race after spending the session fine-tuning the car to work in traffic.
“I was really working on my car, the level of downforce and grip that I wanted to have starting 16th,” Kanaan told IndyCar.com.
“So, really, we worked in traffic a lot and trying to find the grip and scan to some of the items that we had on the list to be able to – once we put ourselves in the front during the race – to know what to do.”
IndyCar rookie Santino Ferrucci continued his confident arrival at the Brickyard as he ended the session just 0.054mph behind Kanaan in the #19 Dale Coyne Racing-Honda.
2017 Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato finished third ahead of his Rahal-Letterman-Lanigan rookie team-mate for the event, Jordan King.
Indy 500 Stalwart James Davison in the #33 DCR Byrd & Belardi entry rounded out the top five.
Only three drivers who made it into the fast nine finished Carb Day inside the top 10.
Sebastien Bourdais finished off a solid afternoon for Dale Coyne in sixth with Andretti Autosport's Alexander Rossi just behind in seventh.
19-year old rookie Colton Herta only set the 10th fastest time while pole-sitter Simon Pagenaud could only muster a best lap good enough for 22nd place.
Sunday's 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is set to begin at 12:45 pm local time.
