Kyle Kaiser crashes heavily during Indy 500 practice

Kyle Kaiser has become the latest victim of the Indianapolis walls as he lost it at Turn 3 during Indy 500 practice on Friday.

The Juncos Racing driver, who is piloting a white-liveried Dallara-Chevrolet this weekend following sponsor troubles, lost the rear on the entry of Turn 3, hit the outside wall and went airborne, but luckily the car landed back right-side up before coming to a rest in the infield.

He's the fourth driver to crash heavily this week so far, following Fernando Alonso, Felix Rosenqvist and Patricio O'Ward.

All, including Kaiser, have escaped unharmed, but Kaiser and Juncos will be in a race against time to repair his car and there will be added pressure because of the sponsor issues which have impacted the operations finances, meaning their spares are very limited.

Speaking after, Kaiser said it wasn't ideal timing given the circumstances surrounding the team.

"I'm fine, I'm very fortunate that the technology and safety in IndyCar has gotten as good as it has today. It was definitely a big hit, I felt it," he said. "I'm extremely grateful to be talking with you guys now.

"Overall, the car, it just felt like I lost it in the middle of the corner. There wasn't really much I could do. It felt pretty good the first opening laps, we've done some quali sims throughout the weekend, today we've been going a little bit quicker…I'm not really sure, we need to look at the data and see what happened there.

"Obviously this is not what you want to be doing on the same before qualifying. We'll need to go back and kind of see what our options are and obviously we'll be doing everything we can to qualify for this race."

After this incident in Turn 3, @KyleKRacing has been checked, cleared and released from the @IMS Infield Medical Center.#INDYCAR // #ThisIsMay pic.twitter.com/CtMEuNr9Wr
