Pirelli has confirmed that three teams will assist with its initial preparations for Formula 1’s switch to 18-inch wheel rims for 2021.
Formula 1 will move from the current 13-inch specifications to 18-inch rubber as part of the raft of sporting and technical regulation changes planned for 2021.
It was confirmed on Thursday that Formula 2 will use the 18-inch rubber in 2020, with the series being regarded as an ideal test bed for Formula 1 ahead of 2021.
During the FIA press conference on Friday Pirelli chief Mario Isola revealed that Mercedes, McLaren and Renault will supply modified 2018 cars for three separate test sessions.
These will take place across September, October and November this year.
All data gathered during the respective sessions will be shared between all 10 teams, ensuring no-one gains an advantage, while Pirelli will then use its allocated 25 days in 2020 for further tests.
All 10 teams will be invited to participate in those test days.
