Gustavo Menezes thinks Rebellion team-mate Thomas Laurent deserves to be praised after the Frenchman secured a second place podium finish at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
The #13 Rebellion R13-Gibson of Menezes, Laurent and Nathanaël Berthon took second place in the penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, finishing ahead of the SMP Racing entry of Stoffel Vandoorne, Vitaly Petrov and Mikhail Aleshin.
"We just really went into this race with open arms," Menezes told Motorsport Week. "We gave it everything we had, and we found ourselves quite quickly in a good position. We just tried to do the most we could at all times of the race."
"We kept going back and forth with SMP due to the weather conditions varying, I think it’s always a bit of a betting game at that point, but I’m very proud that it worked out for us."
Menezes' team-mate Laurent claimed second position after passing a struggling Mikhail Aleshin following the penultimate safety car restart. Aleshin was suffering from a gearbox issue which left him unable to use fifth and sixth gear, preventing him from mounting a challenge to the much faster Laurent.
After the race, Menezes praised Laurent for keeping his cool in the adverse weather conditions:
"Yeah, obviously, hats off to Thomas, who drove an incredible race in the worst conditions that shouldn’t have been green. The whole team did a great job, and proud with the P2 today."
