Alex Lynn proud of ‘huge’ win in classic Spa 6 Hours

Alex Lynn says he and Aston Martin can be "proud" of its performance at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in the wake of its victory in class.

Lynn, driving the #97 Aston Martin Vantage AMR together with Maxime Martin, held back opposition from Ferrari, Porsche and BMW to take his first GTE Pro victory for Aston Martin Racing.

"I think we were really strong in the rain, and also the dry," Lynn told Motorsport Week.

"We managed to pass the Porsche and then pulled away from the Ferrari. I was seeing the gap increase and the car was working fantastic."

"I was really hoping for a dry race for the rest, but it was anything but that. But we made some really good calls in terms of strategy, and a lot of fuel saving in the end as well, just really classic endurance racing, I’m proud to have won a race like that."

The victory looked in jeopardy when Kevin Estre, on better tyres, was on a charge and quickly caught and passed the stuggling Briton.

Lynn explained that his Aston Martin was caught out by the changing conditions and found himself on the wrong compound.

"I think for 95 percent of the race we were on the right tyre at the right time," he explained.

"I think it was only maybe 10 laps we weren’t, but that was enough to erode our lead, and then we lost it, but then we got it back."

The victory came exactly one full year after the new generation Vantage was introduced into World Endurance Championship competition.

"I think it’s huge, for the guys at Aston Martin Racing. I really can’t stress enough how much effort has gone into the car itself to improve. Because I think it’s no secret where we were last year. This time last year was nowhere near this result, in fact, so far away from it. So I think the win is just huge, really huge."
