KTM has confirmed it has extended its deal with Miguel Oliveira to cover the 2020 MotoGP season, when he will once again campaign with Tech3.

Last year's Moto2 championship runner-up has stepped up to the premier class with the factory KTM-backed KTM outfit for 2019, and has so far impressed aboard the RC16.

Oliveira sits 16th in the standings with 11th and 14th-place finishes from the Argentina and Americas Grands Prix, where he was also second-best KTM runner behind factory team rider Pol Espargaro.

His 2020 deal was first rumoured by Germany's Speedweek on Tuesday, though Oliveira moved to deny these reports on the eve of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. However, KTM has now confirmed his future MotoGP plans.

“We are extremely happy to announce that we have activated our option with Miguel and his contract with us early because what he has shown in the first races is really good for us and there is no reason to wait any longer,” KTM Motorsport boss Pit Beirer said.

“We’re really pleased to have a rider of his clear potential inside KTM for another year.”

Oliveira's arrival in MotoGP was significant for KTM, as he became the first of its riders to contest all classes of the World Championship on its machinery.

Only a handful of 2020 seats remain up for grabs, with Danilo Petrucci's place at Ducati currently only secure for next year.

As a result, both Pramac Ducati seats are currently available for 2020, with both Jack Miller and rookie Francesco Bagnaia vying with Petrucci for the second works Ducati seat.

Both spaces at Avintia and Takaaki Nakagami's place at LCR have also not been secured past the current campaign.
