Harry Tincknell was elated to have claimed GTE Pro pole position with Ford, but didn't expect to be at the very top of the timing sheets.
"We didn’t expect it, we’ve been there or thereabouts in practice, we didn’t quite nail the setup," said Tincknell. "In quali we absolutely did a great job, engineers did a fantastic job."
The #97 Aston Martin of Alex Lynn and Maxime Martin was fastest for a long time, until Andy Priaulx went fastest right at the tail end of the session.
"Honestly, I was like shaking when I went out of the car because I knew I’d got the maximum out of it. The car felt fantastic, I knew Andy would do the car justice. I was watching him come in and as he’s coming round the last corner I was thinking ‘this could be on, you know’. It was like my football team had just scored, when his name went to the top of the timesheet I leapt out of my chair and was giving it some, so that was great."
Despite taking the top spot, Tincknell still thinks the pair of Aston Martin Vantages will be a difficult opponent
"Yeah, they’re fast you know, they’ve got so much power. I expect them to be quick round here, when you actually see the BOP swings from last year to this year, it’s unbelievable how much difference there is."
"You expect them and BMW to be really really quick and it’s not gonna be easy tomorrow, but we’ll do our best."
