W Series has confirmed the inaugural season of the all-female single-seater championship will air live in the UK on Channel 4.

The coverage will include all of the qualifying sessions, race build-up and behind-the-scenes insights across the six race meetings of the season.

Every event will also be available in high-definition and live online for anyone on the go, plus it will be shown on the 4 Catch-up service.

Channel 4 is also the home of terrestrial coverage of Formula 1, albeit only a highlights basis with exception of the British Grand Prix in July.

Ex-Formula 1 driver, turned commentator for F1 on Channel 4, David Coulthard said: "I’ve had the privilege of working with Channel 4 as a Formula 1 commentator for many years and I’m thrilled that their appetite for live motorsport has grown to cover W Series too.

"Channel 4’s experience with Formula 1 will prove invaluable as we work together to produce a compelling show for viewers, fans, partners and sponsors alike."

Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Sport, Joe Blake-Turner, added: "We’re thrilled to be bringing live coverage of W Series to terrestrial audiences.

"Women have been under-represented in motorsport for far too long and who knows, this exciting format could be the first step towards producing a female Formula 1 champion in the not-too-distant future."

W Series will support the DTM championship in 2019, with the first round taking place in Hockenheim, Germany on May 4.
