IndyCar Classic race winner Colton Herta admits he is itching to get back into his #88 Harding Steinbrenner Racing car ahead of the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama this weekend to continue the momentum from his race win in Texas.
Herta pushed hard from the very beginning at the Circuit of the Americas and kept himself in contention for the race win when a caution came out for the stricken #10 of Felix Rosenqvist, which left the door wide open to claim the victory as leaders Alexander Rossi and Will Power had yet to pit and subsequently fell out of the running.
The youngest winner in IndyCar history is eager to get on the Barber Motorsports Park circuit, a track which he finds challenging and has been successful at before in Indy Lights where he won Race 2 in 2017 and stood on the podium for both races in 2018.
“I’ve been itching to get back in the GESS International Honda-powered #88 Indy car after such a successful race at the Circuit of the Americas,” said Herta.
“Everybody is doing such a great job, and the car has been fast everywhere we’ve gone. Barber Motorsports Park is a track that I’ve always loved because of its high commitment with little runoff. This should be an interesting race as always”
Team President Brian Barnhart believes a mixture of positive momentum and pre-season preparation make for a solid grounding for his HSR team to do well in Alabama.
“Coming on the heels of Harding Steinbrenner’s first ever victory, there’s a lot of momentum and excitement being carried forward,” added Barnhart.
“We’re going to do our best to continue the positive progress of the team. Colton has some experience at Barber Motorsports Park in an Indy Lights car, and earlier this year we did some simulator work with him at Barber.
"So, hopefully, that will transfer positively on the race track. The victory at COTA put a lot of pep into everyone’s step, so we’re very much looking forward at another good weekend.”
