Mick Schumacher is set to make his Formula 1 test debut for Ferrari during next week’s post-race running in Bahrain.
Formula 1 is to stay on at Sakhir next Tuesday and Wednesday for the first of two in-season test sessions, with teams required to run young drivers for 50 per cent of the days.
Schumacher, the reigning European Formula 3 champion, joined Ferrari’s Driver Academy earlier this year ahead of his graduation to Formula 2, which begins in Bahrain this weekend.
Schumacher is set to get behind the wheel of Ferrari’s SF90 on Tuesday at the venue where his father, Michael, claimed the inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix victory 15 years ago.
The 20-year-old will then test for the Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo team on the second day of running.
Schumacher’s only experience of Formula 1 machinery came in Belgium in 2017 when he demonstrated his father’s title-winning Benetton B194 for a slow parade lap.
"I am obviously more than excited and would like to thank Ferrari for giving me this opportunity," said Schumacher.
"I am really looking forward to what I’m sure will be a great experience.
"But for the moment, I am consciously putting all thoughts of the test to one side, because I am also very much looking forward to competing in my first F2 race and would like to focus a hundred percent on the weekend to come."
Regular racer Sebastian Vettel will carry out Wednesday's test running for Ferrari.
