The KymiRing in Finland, which is due to to host a MotoGP round in 2020, will host a two-day test in August for official manufacturer test teams.
The under-construction KymiRing was due to host a two-day official in-season test for all teams and riders this year, but this was moved to Misano at the end of August following delays in the circuit's building process.
The door was not completely closed on KymiRing hosting a test this year, with MotoGP now confirming – after the circuit offered an assurance it would be ready – a two-day outing for test teams will take place a week before the British Grand Prix on August 19 and 20.
According to a brief statement: “The test with MotoGP manufacturers' test teams will provide valuable data to all MotoGP class teams, as well as the technical suppliers, ahead of the KymiRing's inclusion on a future MotoGP calendar.
“Every manufacturer will be present and represented by at least one rider.”
Finland last hosted a motorcycle grand prix in 1982 at the Imatra Circuit, which is still used for road racing today.
The Finnish Grand Prix was due to form part of the 2019 calendar, but ongoing delays with the KymiRing circuit being built meant this was pushed back to next year.
This will take the calendar to 20 races, with this deemed the maximum by the riders. Dorna's current deal with the teams also only extends to 20 races.
In 2021, MotoGP is set to race in Indonesia for the first time at purpose-built street circuit in Lombok.
To accommodate this additional round, it is likely one of the four races currently held in Spain will be dropped from the schedule.
