IndyCar is to be shown on Sky Sports F1 from this season as part of a new multi-year agreement.
IndyCar had previously been shown on BT Sport – typically through its ESPN channel – but that deal was not renewed for 2019.
On Friday it was confirmed that Sky has picked up the rights and it will work in conjunction with NBC to broadcast all qualifying sessions and races from the 17 events, including May’s Indianapolis 500.
Its coverage will begin with next weekend’s season-opening round in St. Petersburg.
“IndyCar is one of the most thrilling competitions in motor racing, crowned by the world renowned 'Indy 500', and it's great to be able to work with our new partners at NBC to bring it to a whole new audience here in the UK and Ireland,” said Sky Sports content chief Steve Smith.
“Alongside our biggest ever season of F1, it will be part of an incredible line-up of motor racing on Sky Sports this year.”
It is the first time that IndyCar will be shown on Sky Sports F1, the channel that was created in 2012 to mark the company’s acquisition of Formula 1 rights in the UK and Ireland.
The channel also shows Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup events as part of Formula 1’s support package.
