Nyck de Vries led the second day of Formula 2's pre-season test at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Spain on Wednesday, following his chart-topping time on Tuesday.

The Dutchman posted a 1:24.723 during the opening hour of the morning session for ART Grand Prix, which was good enough to keep him at the top until the chequered flag fell in the afternoon.

UNI Virtuosi’s pair of Luca Ghiotto and Guanyu Zhou were second and third, both within a tenth of de Vries' time in a close session which saw the top ten covered by half a second.

There were three red flags during the morning, one for a track inspection and one ten minutes later when Nicholas Latifi went off at Turn 8.

The remainder of the session was almost trouble-free with the drivers concentrating on long runs. Five minutes before the end, Ghiotto went wide at Turn 8 and touched the barrier. A third and final red flag was waved. The cars returned to the pits and the pitlane remained closed until the chequered flag.

The afternoon saw two red flags to bring the day's total to five, as Anthoine Hubert went wide at Turn 4 and stopped in the gravel which brought out the first red flag of the afternoon. The proceedings were halted a second time in the final hour after Sauber's Callum Ilott span and stopped at Turn 1.

Behind the top three was Carlin's Louis Delétraz, Prema's Mick Schumacher, the DAMS duo of Nicholas Latifi and Sérgio Sette Camâra. Illot was eighth with Juan Manuel Correa and Richard Verschoor completing the top ten.
