Mick Schumacher could make his Formula 1 debut as early as March if things fall into place according to Alfa Romeo team boss Frederic Vasseur.
Schumacher will compete in Formula 2 this year with Prema Powerteam and recently signed with the Ferrari Driver Academy as he sets his sights on F1 in the near future.
His debut in the top tier could however come sooner than expected though, with Vasseur admitting Alfa Romeo could call upon the son of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher for the post-Bahrain GP young driver test.
Whilst Ferrari could also call upon Schumacher should they need to, Vasseur said discussions had taken place with Ferrari about giving the 19-year-old seat time at Alfa Romeo next month.
"We don’t know yet but we are discussing," he told Race Fans.
"It’s on the table. It’s a bit too early but we will discuss [further] this week with Ferrari and what programme we can do."
Vasseur is confident Schumacher is ready to test an F1 car despite his lack of experience and says he's actually one of the most suitable candidates given he has the required superlicence points and doesn't have other commitments like a lot of current drivers.
"To do a rookie test, for sure [he's ready]," he added. "He has the 40 points. Now we don't have so many guys with 40 points and if you consider that some of them they are doing Formula E, they have contracts, some of them are doing WEC and we have a couple of clashes between F1 and WEC or F1 and Formula E."
