R-Motorsport has completed the driver line-up for its Aston Martin DTM effort by adding Daniel Juncadella for the 2019 season.

After announcing Paul di Resta, Jake Dennis and Ferdinand Habsburg, the 27-year-old joins the team as the fourth and final driver in the line-up. Juncadella drove for Mercedes in its final season in DTM, scoring a race victory at Brands Hatch.

"Last year it seemed like there was going to be a change in my sporting life, since it was the last year of Mercedes and the idea was to continue being linked to them," Juncadella said.

"It was a good year for me in the DTM in many aspects, although the final result in the championship did not show it. I wanted to continue here, especially with the change in regulations."

Juncadella turned down an earlier offer from Nissan to race in Super GT for 2019: "The truth is that it was a difficult decision, because it did not depend on myself 100 per cent," said the Spaniard.

"R-Motorsport was my first choice because I know the engineers, mechanics and the people who work in HWA. It is true that I had other options, but I had to decide without knowing the answer of Aston Martin. It has been a difficult winter in that sense, because I had to set aside other things that perhaps were also attractive."

Through joining R-Motorsport, Juncadella retains his HWA affiliation, as HWA runs the Aston Martin DTM programme with R-Motorsport's parent company AF Racing. Juncadella is currently a test and reserve driver for HWA's Formula E effort.

“Daniel is a very reliable top driver and well-known in the DTM," added team boss Florian Kamelger. "We’re counting on his many years of experience to help us gradually work our way up with the Aston Martin Vantage DTM to be as good as the top cars of our fellow competitors.

"Daniel and Paul Di Resta are both have a good understanding of exactly what is required to ensure that we make rapid progress with the development of our technical package."
