Xtreme Concepts Racing is a new NASCAR team formed by Joe Gibbs Racing Marketing partner Extreme Concepts Inc. The new team plans to compete in a limited NASCAR national-level schedule of seven races across the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2019 with technical assistance from Joe Gibbs Racing and Jeffrey Earnhardt as the driver of its #81 Toyota in both series.
“We are taking a very deliberate and methodical approach to becoming a NASCAR team,” Xtreme Concepts Racing owner Landon Ash said. “Having a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing makes the learning curve a little less steep and allows us to field competitive race cars right out of the gate.”
The new team plans to compete in both Cup Series races at Talladega Superspeedway, making its Talladega and Cup Series debut on April 28, and also contesting the second series race there Oct. 13. Xtreme Concepts Racing has visions of, ultimately, racing full-time in the Cup Series.
“Our ultimate goal is to become a fulltime team in the NASCAR Cup Series,” Ash said. "We’ll take what we learn this season and apply it to next season. We plan to grow incrementally, and our alliance with JGR will be a key component of that growth.”
The five Xfinity Series races the new team plans to contest include Texas Motor Speedway on March 30, Chicagoland Speedway on June 29, Daytona International Speedway on July 5, Bristol Motor Speedway on Aug. 16 and Darlington Raceway on Aug. 31.
Earnhardt, already under contract with JGR to drive its No. 18 entry in nine Xfinity Series races this year, already has experience in both series. He has contested 75 Cup Series races and 66 Xfinity Series races in his career. He competed in 17 Cup races last season but hasn't run an Xfinity Series race since 2015.
