McLaren has confirmed a starting date for Andreas Seidl in his new role as the Formula 1 team’s Managing Director.

McLaren revealed last month that it had recruited Seidl from Porsche to lead its Formula 1 operation, but a start date had not been set.

On Tuesday it confirmed that Seidl will take up his new position at the start of May.

It means the Spanish Grand Prix – the fifth round of the season – will be the first event at which Seidl attends in the new role.

“We're delighted that Andreas is able to join the team on 1 May,” said McLaren Chief Executive Zak Brown.

“This enables us to continue the momentum of our recovery plan and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to McLaren.”

McLaren has still yet to set a date for the arrival of new Technical Director James Key, whose recruitment from Toro Rosso was announced last summer.

McLaren finished sixth in last year’s Constructors’ Championship and enacted several key personnel changes in the wake of disappointing on-track results.

Engineering chiefs Tim Goss and Matt Morris departed while Eric Boullier also relinquished his position as Racing Director.

McLaren also enters 2019 with a refreshed driver line-up of Carlos Sainz Jr. and Lando Norris.

Its new car, the MCL34, will be unveiled at its Woking base on Thursday.
