Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Lucas di Grassi took provisional pole position ahead of the Santiago E-Prix, with the Brazilian racer setting the fastest time in qualifying but being under investigation due to a technical infringement.
Di Grassi performed his initial qualifying run in Group Two, ending the group qualifying stages as the third-fastest runner, with only Pascal Wehrlein and Sebastien Buemi heading the Brazilian before the top-six Super Pole shootout.
As the slowest of the top six, Daniel Abt in the second works Audi e-tron FE05 opened proceedings in Super Pole, setting a 1m 08.958s lap to set a benchmark time in the session.
HWA Racelab's Stoffel Vandoorne was the second driver to take to the track, however, was unable to match Abt's best efforts, trailing the German racer by 0.277s while finding himself under investigation after his one qualifying run, breaching Super Pole procedure after leaving the pit lane too late.
Envision Virgin Racing's Sam Bird was also unable to match Abt's best time, ending up 0.295s off the pace which ultimately left the Briton with the slowest time of the Super Pole shootout.
Di Grassi, who was the fourth runner in the final qualifying session, demolished Abt's qualifying time, beating his team-mate by 0.668s to claim provisional pole position while on-track successors Buemi and Wehrlein were unable to beat the Season Three champion's qualifying lap.
This handed di Grassi provisional pole position and three bonus points for taking the top spot, with a technical infringement and subsequent investigation meaning that the driver could be handed a grid penalty ahead of the Santiago E-Prix.
Buemi was di Grassi's nearest challenger, with the Swiss racer completing the front row of the grid, beating Mahindra Racing's Wehrlein who ended qualifying in third place.
Abt ultimately dropped to fourth in the Super Pole shootout, leaving the German driver with a spot on the second row of the grid while Vandoorne was fifth and Bird sixth.
Missing out on a spot in Super Pole, Edoardo Mortara fronted what was a strong qualifying session for Venturi, with the Swiss driver qualifying in seventh while Felipe Massa was 10th.
GEOX Dragon's Maximilian Gunther and BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Alexander Sims separated the two Venturi drivers, securing eighth and ninth respectively.
Jose Maria Lopez, who set the fastest time in FP2, qualified in 11th place, edging ahead of Panasonic Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans who trailed the three-time WTCC champion by 0.034s to secure 12th.
For DS Techeetah, it was a difficult qualifying hour, with Jean-Eric Vergne and Andre Lotterer ending the session in 13th and 15th, separated by Oliver Rowland in 14th.
Robin Frijns was 16th fastest in the second Envision Virgin entry and was followed by Gary Paffett in the second HWA.
Ad Diriyah E-Prix race winner Antonio Felix da Costa, like Vergne and Lotterer, had a difficult qualifying session after completing his initial run in Group One, with the Portuguese racer only managing 18th on the grid in the second BMW.
Oliver Turvey was 19th for NIO and was followed by Nelson Piquet Jr, current championship leader Jerome d'Ambrosio and Tom Dillmann who completed the field of 22.
