HWA Racelab to collaborate with Arden in Formula 2

Mercedes is to have a presence in Formula 2 this season after confirmation that affiliated company HWA will collaborate with Arden International.

HWA Racelab entered Formula E for 2018/19, ahead of Mercedes’ impending arrival in the series, having previously operated Mercedes’ DTM programme.

HWA Racelab will also be present elsewhere on the Formula 1 support bill this year after being accepted as one of the 10 teams for the new-for-2019 FIA Formula 3 championship, a series from which Arden will be absent.

Arden, meanwhile, has competed in Formula 1's feeder since its inception as GP2 in 2005.

The team, which has yet to confirm its 2019 driver line-up, will continue to be known as BWT Arden, having last year signed a title agreement with the Austrian water brand.

“We are very pleased about this co-operation with Arden International, which is an important step for us as a team,” said Ulrich Fritz, HWA Racelab team boss.

“It does not just represent a sporting challenge, but also allows us to utilise synergies and demonstrate our expertise in all areas of motorsport.

“The FIA Formula 2 Championship is an extremely exciting and competitive platform.

“As newcomers to this championship, our primary aim is to learn as much as possible, apply our engineering know-how and contribute to the success of Arden.

“An involvement in Formula 2 is an ideal addition to our wide spectrum of motorsport commitments, which now ranges from Formula 3 to Formula E, and from GT racing to the DTM.”

BWT Arden finished ninth in last year's Teams' Championship, with current Formula E racer Maximilian Gunther taking its sole victory in Silverstone's Sprint Race.
