Esteban Ocon is set to drop five places on the Brazilian Grand Prix grid following confirmation that he will take on a new gearbox this weekend.
The Force India driver was 10th fastest in practice for the race on Friday, but the team have chosen to replace his gearbox outside of the six consecutive events each unit must complete.
"The driver did not finish the last race in Mexico and this gearbox change was before the six consecutive events expired. Therefore this is not in compliance with Article 23.5a of the 2018 Formula 1 Sporting Regulations."
A gearbox penalty will mean the Frenchman starts five places lower than he qualifies on Saturday.
Ocon is one of two drivers with penalties this weekend so far after Daniel Ricciardo was forced to take on a new turbocharger following a marshal error in Mexico.
