Sauber test driver Tatiana Calderon is set to receive her first taste of Formula 1 machinery during a filming day next week.
Sauber is staying on at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for a day of tyre testing in association with Pirelli, though Calderon’s outing will be part of a filming day that will be run in parallel.
Drivers are restricted to 100km worth of running on Pirelli’s promotional tyres, which equates to a maximum of 23 laps of the Mexican circuit, with teams permitted two filming days per year.
Calderon, 25, joined Sauber as its development driver last year and stepped up to the role of test driver for 2018.
Calderon, following three years in Formula 3, switched to GP3 in 2016, and currently holds 16th place in this season’s championship, with a best result of sixth at Monza.
The outing will take place at the Mexican Grand Prix venue on Tuesday.
“I am very thankful and excited about the opportunity given to me by the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, Escudería Telmex, Telcel, Infinitum and Claro to drive a Formula 1 car for the first time in my career,” she said.
“Since I started racing, my dream and goal has been to drive at the highest level one day.
“It will be an incredible experience to discover the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez from the cockpit of the Sauber C37 in Mexico City.
“As a Latin American driver, there could not be a more special place for me to make my debut behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car.”
