NIO Formula E has announced a multi-year technical partnership with industry-leading cyber protection and hybrid cloud storage specialist Acronis.

Announced following the launch of NIO’s Season Five Formula E car which saw the grand unveiling of the team's 004 machine as well as the confirmation that Oliver Turvey and Tom Dillmann as the team's 2018/19 drivers, the tech tie-up will see Acronis provide cyber protection for the Chinese start-up through its backup, disaster recovery and file sync and share solutions.

By sharing its expertise in data protection with NIO, the team will have an increased capacity to deal with any unpredicted events during a race event while staff will be able to work collaboratively from anywhere in the world with protected and backed-up data.

"We are delighted to announce our partner Acronis, a world leader in the field of cyber protection and disaster recovery software,” said Gerry Hughes, NIO Formula E team principal.

"While we are entering into a new technical arena which will open up new mechanisms of data analysis and predicative capability in the often-turbulent world of street racing, the partnership with Acronis extends to the wider NIO business. Hence, this is truly a global partner which we are proud to have alongside us.”

John Zanni, President of Acronis added: “Acronis’ technology fits the busy lifestyle of motorsport teams. It covers all five vectors of cyber protection – safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity, security – and offers unparalleled data management flexibility on the road and in the factory.

"We are proud to be associated with one of the most innovative teams on the grid and look forward to a successful partnership together.”

Pre-season testing for Season Five of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship commences on October 16 at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit before the all-electric single seater series heads to Saudi Arabia for the first race of the coming 13-round campaign on December 15.
