Kevin Magnussen has lost two sets of tyres following a small garage fire in the Haas garage on Thursday night, ahead of this weekend's Russian Grand Prix.

Smoke coming from the garage alerted a security guard who raised the alarm. The fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty tyre blanket, with the fire spreading to a second set of tyres before it was eventually extinguished.

The two sets of tyres are no longer in a useable state and Haas submitted a request to the FIA to have them replaced.

The team confirmed to Motorsport Week that the request had been accepted and Magnussen's weekend would therefore not be impacted by the fire.

Speaking to Autosport, team boss Guenther Steiner said he was thankful it didn't turn into a more serious incident and said the exact cause would be investigated.

"We don't know what happened yet, because it's all burned," he said. "We cannot jump to a conclusion. I don't want to put any panic on to what actually happened, because we don't know.

"I think one security guard saw it, and then they all worked together to extinguish it.

"A lucky escape, and it's good that they worked together and caught it, because if tyres go on fire they are difficult to extinguish."
