Jorge Martin ended Friday Moto3 running ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix fastest of all after topping the second session, while Jakub Kornfeil was fastest in FP1.
Kornfeil led the way in the opening 40-minute session at Misano by just over two tenths aboard his Prustel GP KTM, beating Schedl GP's Philipp Oettl with a final lap of 1:43.526s.
Martin, second in the championship, set the early pace at 1:45.111s, which he gradually improved up as FP1 proceeded – though ended up eighth in the end with a 1:44.393s.
Kornfeil fired in a 1:43.526s at the end of the session to seize top spot from Oettl and Aron Canet, while points leader Marco Bezzecchi was half a second off the pace in fourth ahead of Gabriel Rodrigo.
Italian wildcard Kevin Zannoni held top spot briefly in the closing stages, but crashed immediately at Turn 1 and was knocked back to 15th as a result. 10th-placed Jaume Masia suffered two technical issues.
Masia's mechanical woes carried on into FP2, with the Spaniard forced to stop his Bester Capital machine at the side of the track twice in the space of 15 minutes.
Martin led the way in the opening stages with a 1:43.893s, the Gresini Honda rider improving on his follow-up tour to a 1:43.357s.
The Spaniard was usurped by the Leopard pair of Enea Bastianini and Lorenzo Dalla Porta with just under 15 minutes remaining, though the latter had his 1:42.789s cancelled for exceeding track limits.
Bastianini returned to top spot moments later, however, with a legal lap of 1:42.554s, before Bezzecchi crept ahead with a 1:42.527s.
Martin returned to the top of the standings in the final minute with a 1:42.324s, which secured first place on Friday ahead of Bezzecchi and Bastianini, while Rodrigo and Canet rounded out the top five.
Oettl ended the day sixth overall from Dalla Porta, while Zannoni leaped up to eighth late on aboard his TM Racing machine. Tony Arbolino and Dennis Foggia completed the top 10.
